Geek Soul Brother

Yes, if you are a fan of Movies like EVIL DEAD and such, then you might like this film. It has that same mix of Comedy and not so scary Horror. The plot is very original. But if you are looking for a really scary movie (false advertising), then you will be disappointed. The only thing I will say bad is that I didn't care for the ending. It just bothered me, but no spoilers here. Maybe I expected something different (thus my warning to you). The good points: the acting, directing and comedy were very good. And you will get your fill of monsters. Fandango Fan David Mello stated that this movie was shot before Thor, which answered my questions about Hemsworth starring in it. But it was Fran Kranz as Marty that stole the show, along with the bad guys of course. Maybe this film will grow on me in time, as other fans seem to really enjoy it. But Geek Soul Brother has to call it like he sees it. I give it 2.75 out of 5 Cosmic Afros. Google me if you want more GSB.

::stands up:: I'm ******** and I'm a jaded horror fan. Good, we got that out of the way. So, where to start...cuz I really f&*^ing loved this flick. I do not easily heap praise on horror films nowadays. They are mostly throwaway pieces of garbage with little to no redeeming qualities. But this film did it right. Granted, I wasn't scared in the slightest, but who cares when the film gives you such a a great world to imagine? On the surface, one would think this was the standard slasher movie, but you'd be completely mistaken. This movie deconstructs the stereotypical slasher flick, and then creates a world which gives nods to almost every horror genre out there. I mean, what horror flick recently has given nods to Barker, Lovecraft, and Japanese horror? None that I know of. To top it off, it's pretty funny (though I noticed some of the younger folk didn't catch some of the references), and there's no ####### ending. Color me happy, for once.

If you don't want to waste your money and time please avoid at all cost going to see this movie. The plot is ridiculous and the acting is horrible. The ending is simply retarded. From the pot-smoking comedian to the alleged virgin being arbitrarily sacrificed this movie is worst than any B-movie. Once you understand what's really going on you'll be totally disappointed. Basically, humans have agreed to ritually sacrifice five humans of differing ethical quality to some ancient gods inside the earth (who once ruled the earth). If they fail to do so the so-called ancient gods will destroy the earth. That's it!! If you don't believe me go waste your money and find out.

Finally something that isn't the same horror movie you see over and over and over and .... well you get it. It starts off the way you think it should, I mean nowadays the preview tells you the whole damn movie! But not this one.....It totally takes you to a place you didn't even think of. Great surprises, funny dialog, and a ending that you would have never seen coming! GO SEE IT!

Any fan of Joss Whedon will love this movie and non-fan of Joss Whedon will wonder why they are not a fan of Joss Whedon. Albiet, being a fan may give you a little bit of a sixth-sense as to what is about to happen next, but that does not take away from the fun when it does happen. Each scene is replete with Whedon-esque dialogue with a hint of Slayer Slang, and tells a cliche story without any actual cliches. As always, try to watch the background, you'll catch some funny references and fore-shadowing.
